Political and Literary Communities in Early Modern Dalmatia
Ivan LUPIĆ | University of Rijeka (Fiume)
Ivan Lupić was the protagonist of the fourth and final meeting of the VII cycle of seminars on Adriatic Humanism. His presentation focused on the relationships between language, politics, and literature in Dalmatia, starting from the fifteenth century, when there was a strong debate on the use and functions of language.
Numerous sources were examined, including some documents from the Sturani family archive in Ancona, the poetic work of the Croatian Hanibal Lučić (Hvar, 1485-1553), and the account of the journey to Dalmatia written by Alberto Fortis in 1774.
The engaging final discussion with the audience began with an important consideration: pride in the vernacular arrives in Croatia with Italian Humanism.
Thanks to all who collaborate and participate in the Adriatic Humanism project; thanks to the State Library of Macerata for hosting; thanks to all who attended the meetings. The appointment is in October, with the VIII cycle.
